HEALTHY HABITS

The average 5-year-old child needs about 40 calories per pound of body weight, or approximately 1800 calories per day, varying with the amount of physical activity and the growth rate of a child at any particular time.  This is about the same number of calories required by many adults.  However, because of their small stomaches, children can’t get enough calories in just three meals.  Snacks are an important part of an overall nutrition plan for children. The USDA Food Pyramid gives us useful guidelines to plan a complete and healthy diet, so that we can eat and feed our families to get maximum nutrition.
